9/27/2010: H.T. Lyons is an approved ESCO in the state of New Jersey
PostedSep 272010

On January 21, 2009, Governor Corzine signed legislation regarding Energy Savings Improvement Projects. The bill requires general contractors and energy service companies (also known as ESCO’s) performing public works activities under an energy savings improvement program, to be classified with the NJ Division of Property Management and Construction (DPMC). Therefore, the DPMC has added the ENERGY SERVICES (ESCO) class code (C036) to its listing of construction classification trades.

On September 20, 2010, H.T. Lyons submitted its application for classification as an ESCO.  Included in the application was the identification of the current certifications, licenses and accreditations held by H.T. Lyons and its key personnel involved in Energy Services.  H.T. Lyons also described some notable Energy Services projects that demonstrate comprehensive experience with this type of work.  On September 27, 2010 H.T. Lyons received confirmation that we have been granted classification for the Energy Services trade.

Through this new energy savings legislation, school districts, higher education institutions, counties and municipalities, as well as State agencies, may now implement energy savings programs for its facilities. Energy audits are required to be performed by an independent “energy auditing” consultant prequalified by the DPMC. The energy audit will identify the current energy use of a building or facility and energy conservation measures that can be implemented in which the energy savings can be realized and maximized. Once an energy savings improvement plan is developed, verified and approved, it will be advertised by the organization or agency for bid to a DPMC classified ENERGY SERVICES Company or ESCO. The Energy Services Company, acting as a general contractor, will be responsible for overseeing the development, design and implementation of the energy services conservation measures chosen to improve the energy savings and efficiency of the facility.
